If you enjoy a deeper kind of music, something with funk, hints of moodiness, euphoria, a blend of the real and the surreal, music that is itself an experience in the right hands, on the right sound system. If you’ve ever felt lost in the music on a dance floor and loved every second, Mike Vieira is your DJ.
Known for selecting more obscure electronic music recordings, the kind of music made for those late night dance floors, the ones that convey a sense of class and sophistication while still having grit, a bit of sleaze, that underground feeling. Music that attempts to defy genres and blur the lines between them at every opportunity is what you’ll here in a typical set. From deep house to techno, progressive house to dubstep, break beats, drum and bass, tribal rhythms, electro, trip hop, dub. Varied interests turn into great surprises.
Inspired by some of the great DJ legends including John Digweed and Carl Cox, as well as local house heroes like DJ Shawn Riker, Deko-ze and Manzone & Strong, Mike plays with purpose and vision, trying at every step to utilize the club sound system to its fullest potential; loud and clear.
From small clubs and lounges for 50 - 100 people, to open air concert set ups in front of several thousand, Mike is at home while his finger is on the pulse of the music.
Testament to his passion is his regular involvement with various electronic music events throughout his home city of Toronto. From hosting and providing the soundtrack to his own weekly party, Red Light Thursday’s at Lo’la in Toronto, where he showcases new and upcoming music releases, artists and DJs along with oft forgotten classics, to making regular monthly appearances at FLY Nightclub, a dance music hotspot in the heart of the city, access to these mediums offers plenty of room to present his unique take on club music.
Add to this a podcast uploaded regularly to the web, along with work on various large scale events in the summer months including one of the largest Gay Pride festivals and one of the largest outdoor circuit parties in North America, its fair to say his passions are firmly attached to electronic music. There’s something in the sound.
